At 8.30am on Sunday 28.08.22 officers of the Highway Patrol Task Force conducted a traffic exercise along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway North bound in the vicinity of Brian Lara Cricket Academy, during the exercise motor vehicle PDM 5111 a white Mercedez Benz with one male occupant was stopped and searched, where one black metal firearm component namely a slide was recovered. A search warrant was executed at the home of the individual which resulted in him having an excess of forty(40) rounds of 9mm ammunition contrary to his firearm users licence. Further enquiries led the officers to execute another search warrant at the home of another individual who facilitated the transfer of the component firearm. On searching individual #2 the officers discovered a large quantity of firearms, ammunition and additional component parts namely Slides and barrels. In addition it was discovered that one of his numerous Pistols was reconfigured totally with other component parts creating an entire new firearm. Individual # 2 is the holder of an FUL. Both individuals were arrested. The danger of persons having excess component parts especially barrels will make it very difficult to link a Firearm if it is used in the comission of an crime. The barrel rifling signature of the original Firearm is kept at forensics. But if that barrel is changed then the Firearm will not be linked with the testing records at forensics.
